Hay, Industry!

Hay Industry is a progression of assemblages and video works that explore the dislocation between urban and rural contexts. Starting in the rural context of Trentham I filmed 10-minutes of an industry warning light flashing on a hay bale at dusk, as daylight disappeared. This warning light is used by rural and construction industries when operating at night. It is a glowing beacon signalling that work still continues and production never ceases, flashing glimpses of the behind the scenes goings on.

The second phase of this work projects the industrial rural setting into the living room of the domestic urban context of Brunswick. The behind the scenes production is now in the forefront, shifting the unseen into direct focus. This work begins to elucidate the extent to which production continuously operates around us enabling comfortable domestic lives. The process of recontextualization shines a light on how little we see or have to think about how our material world comes into being.

Continuing to experiment with placement and arrangement.
